Recipe: Red Velvet Cake with Nestles's Quik

RED VELVET CAKE

2 oz. red food coloring
3 Tbsp. Nestle Quik
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix together food coloring and Nestle Quik; set aside.
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs and color
mixture. Beat 10 minutes using electric mixer. Add buttermilk.
Sift flour three times and add to mixture. Add salt and
vanilla and mix well. Remove bowl from mixer. Add and mix
lightly by hand vinegar and baking soda. Bake in greased and
floured cake pan at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

Frosting for Red Velvet Cake:
1/4 lb. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. flour
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Cream well butter, shortening and sugar. Add flour, 1
tablespoon at a time, then milk and vanilla. Beat 12 minutes
with electric mixer.
