OVEN SWISS STEAK

1 1/2 pounds beef round steak, 3/4 inch thick
1/4 cup all-purpose flour, divided use
1 teaspoon salt
1 (16 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped carrot
2 tablespoons chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup shredded sharp process American cheese
Cut meat into 4 portions. Mix flour and salt; pound into meat; set aside remaining flour. Brown meat in small amount of hot shortening. Place meat in shallow baking dish.
Blend remaining flour with drippings in skillet. Add remaining ingredients, except cheese. Cook, stirring constantly, till mixture boils. Pour over meat.
Cover and bake in 350 degree F oven for 2 hours or till tender. Top with cheese; return to oven for few minutes.
Makes 4 servings
