RICE KRISPIES DIVINE TOFFEE SQUARES
2 1/4 cup Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal, divided use
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup plus 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed, divided use
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch salt
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
In mixing bowl, thoroughly combine 3/4 cup Rice Krispies, flour, 1/3 cup brown sugar, melted butter, baking soda, and salt. Press into prepared baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F about 10 minutes or until just starting to brown.
In heavy saucepan, combine condensed milk, 1/2 cup butter and the remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar. Over medium-low heat bring to full boil and boil 5 minutes stirring continuously. Remove from heat and pour over baked crust.
Melt chocolate chips over low heat. Stir in remaining 1 1/2 cups cereal until well coated; using two fork, spread over caramel layer. Chill several hours to set.
Cut in squares.
Makes 24 squares
