Recipe: Substitutions for sour cream in coffee cake

Tips and Tricks - Cooking
Rebecca, I happened to compare some coffeecake recipes last night, and noticed that two of them were identical except that one used a cup of sour cream and the other used a cup of buttermilk. So if you have buttermilk, maybe you could try subbing that in equal proportions. If you don't have buttermilk, you can make "sour milk" by adding vinegar to regular milk - I'm sure that if you search here, you can find the amounts. Or plain yogurt makes a good substitute. You could also use try a flavored yogurt - I'm sure vanilla would be fine, tho I'd be more cautious with other flavors. Good luck!
