ISO: Re: ISO: Soft foods
Misc. I read this message with interest as my mother also suffers from an oral condition which makes it difficult for her to eat anything but very soft food. She has an oral virus that causes large canker sores in her mouth and gums. To make matters worse, she wears dentures and has been unable to put them in. This really limits her diet. As a consequence she is down to 84 lbs. There ar other health issues involved - too numerous to go into here - but we keep trying to come up with recipes that she can eat
My sister an I have made every cream soup that we can come up with. Some are recipes and some we just make up. She enjoys her ice cream and eats that at least once a day. My dad also makes sure that she drinks at least two Ensures a day. the sadddest part is that she used to be a fantastic cook and was such an inspiration to my sister and I in our love of cooking. Which is why I really appreciated Betsy's help in locating the cookbook for soft foods. I am definitely going to order it. There has to be something besides soup, applesauce, mashed potatoes that my mom can enjoy.
It's so hard watching our parents age and become ill. Hopefully a new cookbook and some new recipes will help a little to lift my mom's spirits.
Thanks.
