Yes this is very close to it....we have many bakery here that makes it and has rum in it.....I think may be rum with the jelly and not the water.....I do know you have to age it for a weeks or so....this is one of the bakery write up of it.....

Russian Cake
This is an old-fashioned favorite. We combine gold cake, devil s food cake and almond cake all mixed with raspberry jelly, rum flavor, rum and a hint of anise.

Will try it the way you did and go with the rum too....it is not very strong with the rum just enough to know it is in there. Thanks so much.....Gigi
