Gina, it was a blast!
Misc.I arrived on a Saturday and got sick Monday of the second week. I was there for 2 weeks. So I had a week of fun.
Small world happening: I was to be driver around by a guide and one other person ws to join us. He would catch up the next day. When he showed up, our guide introduced us. He wa a fellow American. So we began comparing note, wher from, etc.. Well, at that time I was living in Boston. And would you believe he was from Cambridge! You know, Harvard Yard and all that!
Couldn't believe I had to come all the way to Costa Rica to meet someone from my "back yard".
Anyway, all was great. We got to bath and romp in the spa/baths near the Arenal volcano, watch it bupr and belch serveral times.
Visited a cloud forest at the top of a mountain. Road was so bad it took our 4-wheel drive 2 hours to drive 1.5 miles!
Trip through the forest was glorious. Vegetation and birds stupendous. Especially when you reallize some of the vegetation has been there since "before time".
Enough of that!
Food, with the exception of food provided by inns, hotel etc., I ate primarily in small bistro type places. SOmetime I didn't kow exactly what I had orderd, but thank GOD it wasn't anything I didn't recognize! hahaha
Spicey food, not hot spicey. Cold fruit and milk drinks.
Exotic fruits...yummy.
We stopped at a small coffee farm on our way back down the mountain and had locally roasted and brewed coffee. No decaf here! Kept me going for 2 days. Bought some for friends back home.
I didn't know about canopy tours at the time. They weren't as popular or well-known then.
Liberia is really quite small. I took a very tiny airplane from the local airport. We had to wait 3 hours before the pilot arrived! Instead of taking off at noon as scheduled, we left at 3. And we flew very low, I doubt he went above 500' at any time. And of course I was still ill at the time. It was not a pleasant trip. I just kept my eyes closed, my little hand held fan blowing on my face and prayed!
In all, I'd do it all again. As I said it was my second best vacation. The best was on a island called Roatan, about 35 miles off the coast of Honduras and owned by them.
YIKES...did I write all that? Hope Betsy let's it all through.
