Gosh! I haven't tackled a fresh coconut

in years!! I always used a hammer. (Use a nail and hammer to poke holes in each of the eyes at one end of the coconut and drain the milk out of it.) Then break it open by hammering the "H e double toothpick" out of it. I think we always drank the coconut milk. I have never heard anything about it(the milk) being bad or not good for you. Whatever! Many years ago, when I was in 6th grade, fresh coconut seemed to be the "in" thing to bring for lunch. We just ate chunks of the fresh coconut, Karen. Enjoy it just as you would any other fresh fruit or vegetable.
