Recipe: Fresh Applesauce Cake (Hamilton Beach Blender, 1950's)

FRESH APPLESAUCE CAKE

2 cups sifted cake flour
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 medium apples, cored and cubed
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
/2 teaspoon allspice
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and wax paper line 13x9-inch pan.

Sift flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, baking soda and spices into medium mixing bowl.

Measure eggs, shortening, sugar and raisins into Blender container; cover and blend on Speed 6 until smooth. Continuing on Speed 6, add the apple cubes through cover opening and blend until smooth. Pour mixture over dry ingredients; mix well. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until cake tests done.

Makes 1 (13x9-inch) cake
