Recipe: Orange Date Loaf Cake (Hamilton Beach Blender, 1950's)

ORANGE DATE LOAF CAKE

1 cup commercial sour cream
2 eggs
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups sugar, divided use
Peel of 1 orange*
1 cup shelled walnuts
1/2 cup pitted dates
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
Juice of 1 orange (for topping baked loaf)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and lightly dust with flour a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.

Put sour cream, eggs, butter or margarine and 1 1/2 cups sugar in Blender container in order listed; cover and blend on Speed 6 until smooth. Add orange peel, nuts and dates; cover and run on Speed 6 until fruits are chopped.

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda together into a mixing bowl; add blended mixture and mix well. Turn batter into prepared pan.

Bake 1 hour 15 minutes or until cake tests done. Remove from oven and cool on a rack for 5 minutes.

Mix orange juice and the remaining 1/2 cup sugar; pour over hot cake while still in pan. When cake is cool, turn out onto serving plate.

*Use vegetable peeler to remove orange layer only.

Makes 1 loaf cake
