It's a Polish recipe for stuffed cabbage leafs (or is it leaves??) - there are many different varieties and ingredients used depending on your family's recipes. But basically, it's parboiled cabbage leaves stuffed with raw hamburger mixed with cooked rice and in my case, bits of browned salt pork and freshly ground pepper. The big roasting pan is lined with the heavier outside cabbage leaves, then a few strips of uncoooked bacon, then you put the rolled up meat filled cabbage leaves on that bed.
Over the top of the little cabbage rolls, there is a sauce of crushed tomatoes, blended with ketchup and some finely grated onion, plus more salt pork bits that have been browned.
Top with more of the heavier outer leaves and another row of bacon strips and remaining sauce.
Cook long and slow at 325 for about 2 to 3 hours.
If you want a more specific recipe, I'll try to put down amounts for you - but it's one of those recipes that I just throw together without measuring.
Let me know if you want a better recipe. I'll do my best to provide one. My DH is half Polish and half Ukrainian and this was his mother's and sisters' recipe which they lovingly and patiently taught this girl how to cook when we were first married years ago!
Love, June
