Cushaw is a variety of pumpkin once used most heavily in the southern ans southwestern parts of the United States. It has a large, round, globe-shaped bottom and a thick tall neck if growing conditions are right. If poor growing conditios occur the neck fails to properly fill out. Once common, now considered a 'speciality variety'. Colors vary in the ranges of green and white stripped, solid white, and gold and white stripped, with green and white being the most common. It is also called a crooked neck squash or(squarsh), according to some Southerners I have talked to. It has a mildly sweet taste and a good solid meat. Many cooking uses and used for ornamental decoration in the fall. Most of the Cushaw we have grown rang in size from 5-20 Lb. There are other names for this unique pumpkin and I am trying to research some history on them. Candy McDonald Bourbonnais, IL. Harvest Time Farm Stand
