Recipe(tried): The Best Krispy Kremes
Breakfast and Brunch The Best Krispy Kremes
I have also been looking for a Krispy Kreme like recipe, I tried the recipe you listed and they are all right, but they don't have that special Krispy Kreme taste. Then I found an article on the internet that gave guesses as to that "secret" ingredient. I took their suggestions, tried a few and this is what I came up with, I don't know how you will like it, but all of my friends and neighbors swear they taste just like Krispy Kremes.
2 pkg yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 1/2 c sclding milk
2/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/3 c. LARD NOT shortening OR butter
1 1/2 t. vanilla
5 c. flour
oil for frying
Dissolve yeast in warm water, set aside. Mix milk, sugar and LARD until Lard is melted. Cool slightly. Add eggs and yeast mixture. Mix in four until you have a moist, sticky dough. Cover with a moist towel, let rise. Roll cut, place on a well floured board. Let rise.
Heat oil to 350 degrees. Gently remove doughnuts from floured surface with a spatula and fry about 30 - 45 seconds per side. Glaze with recipe of your choice.
