Recipe: Walnut Hermits

WALNUT HERMITS

1 cup butter, softened or shortening
2 cups brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup walnuts, chopped
2 cups raisins
1 cup chopped dates

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large bowl, blend together shortening or butter and brown sugar. Beat in eggs. Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add spices. Stir in sour cream, then add walnuts, raisins and dates. Stir well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes.

Yield 6 dozen
