Recipe(tried): Ye Olde English recipe....

Misc.

Hi gals,
While I was looking up a recipe today in my little "photo album recipe file", I noticed how many of these...(all our family favorites) have people's names written before the recipe..ie: Aunt Caroline's sesame cookies; Kathy's Cajun Brownies; Aunt Josie's potato casserole....etc..etc..etc.. (By the way, when my girls, or my daughter-in-law request a recipe...it is ALWAYS found in this book..
As I was looking for a recipe (a story always goes with the name of the person who gave me the recipe), I ran across: MRS. WHITHAM'S TRIFLE.....
and now the rest of the story...
Back in the fall of '58 I entered those dreaded halls of higher learning....otherwise known as JR. high school...The first day of school I met a real sweet girl named Dorian--she was from Sheffield, England, and hadn't been in America very long. I, too, was a recent transplant in California from Ohio....so, I guess we had SOMETHING in common...
As time went by, we became very good friends--both shedding our respective "accents" for "California talk" (Only a person visiting or living in California can understand this!)
Anyway, one week-end she invited me to spend the night at her house, and meet her family. They were very warm and wonderful....I think....(if I just could understand what they were saying!!), Dorian was very happy to translate for me, as her family had encountered this problem of not being understood before...(it was comforting to know I wasn't the only one who didn't understand ENGLISH!!)
Well, after dinner (I don't remember what it was), she pulled this absolutely fabuluous thing out of the 'fridge...She called it "trifle", well never had hearing of this dessert before...I was a little leary...then the first bite!!
so..with no further adieu....
