Thank You: Thank You Sally for The Beautiful Apron Message! (with photos)
Misc.Dear Sally,
I enjoyed reading your Apron message very much. Thank you for sharing it, it was delightful!
There is a wonderful book, Aprons, Icons of the American Home by Joyce Cheney. It contains beautiful pictures, descriptions, stories and poems of vintage aprons. If you love aprons as much as I do, you will love this book.
---Though they are now seldom worn,
aprons remain forever entwined
in our memories.

I just took a 20 minute break from washing my windows and ran across your posting...funny, I am wearing an apron for my job too! Because I am using newspapers to dry the glass, the apron protects my shorts and shirt from getting dirty. It is quite a job but the windows and sliding glass doors look fabulous.
Here's another little tidbit from the book...
"In the kitchen where I grew up there was a drawer for nothing but aprons. My mother and grandmother would not be caught in the kitchen without one. I remember lime green with lace, pink calico, a blue one made from the same material as the tablecloth, a brown one with yellow chickens, a yellow one with tea cups and saucers. The first thing I see when that room rises up in memory is a woman standing by the stove...a woman in an apron.

I love the last line in that quote...my DH always comes home to find me in a different apron in the kitchen. I have even worn them while having a yard sale with a good friend. We wore straw hats and people who came enjoyed seeing us!!
Here is a picture of some of the aprons I own hanging on pegs in my laundry room. My Mom claims that the shelf will come down one day from the weight!!
And this is a picture of my favorite blue and flowers with three deep pockets and the one I am wearing now!
This one has a playing cards theme, I found it at a yard sale for 50 cents!

This is a sweet red gingham one...

I wonder how many other Kitchen Queens out there have aprons and use them?
Thanks Sally! Hugs from Gina
This is where I hang the ones I use the most. I rotate them monthly after they get washed.
