Well very interesting the ADOBO Filipino. I am copying it

and doing a small research because at the begginning of the 20th century many Puerto Ricans emigrated to the Philipines and maybe both recipes are descendants from the same roots.

Let me do a very good search on those Chinese ribs & I will let you know if I I can give some kind of an answer.
