Recipe(tried): Another Lebanese recipe for Denise

Misc.

Hello Denise,

This is another Lebanese recipe that you might be interested in. We love to eat it as a complementary dip when we have hummus with pita bread. It is an unusual combination of ingredients, but it is very delicious. Enjoy! If I acquire any more interesting Arabic recipes, I'll be sure to post them!

MUHAMARA

2 small red bell peppers, cleaned, roasted and peeled
1/3 cup chopped walnuts, slightly roasted
1 1/2 tablespoons pomegranate syrup (found in Middle Eastern food stores)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cumin
3 tablespoons plain fine bread crumbs
1 tablespoon (or less) hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco , or others)
1 teaspoon lemon juice, or to taste
1/8 Cup Tahini
Cayenne pepper and chili powder (to taste)
2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)

Puree the red bell pepper in a blender until very smooth.

Combine the red pepper with all other ingredients except the olive oil. Mix well, then place in a serving dish. Smooth top with the back of a spoon. Garnish with olive oil, (if desired) and whole walnuts.
