Recipe: Bolognese Sauce (using Italian sausage and ground beef, Betty Crocker)

BOLOGNESE SAUCE

"A Classis Sauce for Pasta from Bologna, Italy."

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons margarine or butter
2 medium carrots chopped
1 medium onion chopped
1/2 pound bulk Italian Sausage
1/2 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup dry red wine or beef broth
3 cans (28 ounces each) Italian pear shaped tomatoes, drained and chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Heat oil and margarine in 4 quart Dutch oven over medium high heat. Saute carrots and onion in oil mixture.

Stir in sausage and ground beef. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until done; drain.

Stir in wine. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered until wine is evaporated.

Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Makes 6 servings
