Candy Filled Fudgies
Source: Bake-Off Cookbook from Pillsbury
Makes 48 bars
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate -- melted
2 egg yolks
6 Mounds or Almond Joy candy bars -- (1 5/8 ounces each)
Topping
2 egg whites
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped nuts
Oven 350 degrees.
Prepare topping: Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add brown sugar, beating until stiff peaks form, about 5 minutes. Fold in nuts. Set aside.
In large mixer bowl, combine remaining ingredients except candy bars. Blend well. Press in ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan.
Cut candy bars into 1/3-inch pieces. Sprinkle evenly over dough. Spread prepared topping evenly over candy.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until light golden brown. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
