This is a great cookie recipe that my to-be mother in law gave me. I tried it and it great. She has made them for years.

1 cup soft butter
1 1/2 cup 10x sifted
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
whole or sliced almonds

1. Cream sugar and butter
2. Add egg and flavoring.
3. Sift dry ingredients together, add to creamed mixture
4. With floured hands, shape into small round balls, flatten and make indentation.
5. Place almond in indentation.
6. Brush with egg.
7. Bake 12-15 minutes at 375F.
