Recipe: Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes

Hi Julie,

You can make your mashed potatoes ahead of time and reheat when ready to serve, but for the best flavor and consistency cook your potatoes and mash or rice them (adding nothing) and store in refrigerator. When ready to prepare for serving heat the mashed potatoes whisking in the milk or cream and butter and seasonings (reheating them in the microwave or in a double boiler will help prevent scorching).

If you'd rather fully prepare them ahead of time you can experiment by preparing a small batch of mashed potatoes, refrigerating a day or two and reheating to see how they taste to you.

Some suggest holding mashed potatoes in a crock pot on low for an hour or so before serving. You may need to add a little extra milk or cream to keep them moist.
