Moms Chili
1 1/2 lbs ground chuck or chopped sirloin patties
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 large cloves garlic
2 large cans whole tomatoes
1 large can kidney beans ( I like to use 2 or 3 cans of Brooks Chili Hot Beans and reduce the chili powder to 1 Tbsp.)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. basil
1 bay leaf (be sure to remove from chili before serving)
2 Tbsp. chili powder, or 1 Tbsp. if using the Brooks beans
Brown the meat, if using the sirloin patties crumble them up first.
Add onion and garlic when meat is partially browned.
Chop the tomatoes in a blender, one can at a time.
When meat is browned, transfer the meat and tomatoes to a large pot. Add salt, bay leaf, basil and chili powder.
Cook partially covered for two hours.
