Recipe: Party Cheese Hero Sandwich (broiled)

FOR THE MEAT MIXTURE:
8 slices Borden Single Wrap American Pasteurized Process Cheese Food
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 (1 1/4 to 1 3/4-ounce) package chili seasoning mix
FOR THE SANDWICH:
1 (1 pound) loaf French or Italian bread
1 medium tomato, sliced
1 medium green bell pepper, cut into rings
Cut 3 slices cheese food into pieces; set aside.
In large skillet, brown meat, pour off fat.
Stir in tomato sauce, cheese food pieces, onion, green pepper and chili seasoning. Simmer uncovered 5 to 10 minutes to blend flavors, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, slice off top of French bread and scoop out center section (use for making bread crumbs or croutons); place on large baking sheet. Spoon meat mixture into bread loaf.
Cut remaining cheese food slices in half diagonally; layer alternately with tomato slices and green pepper over meat mixture.
Broil 6 inches from heat 2 to 4 minutes or until cheese food melts.
Replace top of loaf; cut into servings. Serve immediately. Refrigerate leftovers.
Makes 8 servings
