Recipe: Smorgasburgers (using ground turkey, brown rice, apple and onion)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided use
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium apple, peeled and chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried sage (or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped sage)
1 pound ground turkey
3 cups cooked brown rice
2 tablespoons ketchup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
FOR SERVING:
6 hamburger buns, toasted
Assorted condiments
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add onion, apple, garlic and sage; cook 3 to 5 minutes or until onion is tender. Remove from heat.
Combine onion mixture, turkey, rice, ketchup, salt and pepper in large bowl. Shape into patties.
Heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil in same skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Cook burgers 6 minutes per side or until thoroughly cooked.
Serve on buns with condiments.
Makes 6 servings
