Spicy Cherry Nut Balls

Makes: about 5 dozen
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup maraschino cherries -- drained and chopped
Pecan halves
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
In large bowl, cream sugar, brown sugar and butter. Beat in vanilla and egg. Mix well.
Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup. Level off. Add flour, soda, salt and cinnamon. Mix well. Stir in chopped pecans and cherries.
Roll into 1/2-inch balls. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls by pressing pecan halves in center.
Bake for 12-14 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool one minute before removing cookies from cookie sheets.
