I am from Saint louis, too but I live in WV and I miss Steak N shake!
A waitress told me they use Dr. Pepper, not cola and they add ketchup to thicken, sweeten and add color. I add a whole can of Dr. pepper and 1/2 cup ketchup to my pot and it tastes so good!
