Recipe: Whole Wheat Crackers

WHOLE WHEAT CRACKERS

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
butter or margarine, melted

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix flours, sugar, baking soda and salt. Stir in buttermilk and oil. Shape dough into 6 balls.

Roll each ball into 9-inch square on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Cut into 2-1/4-inch squares; brush with butter.

Place squares on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with coarse salt or sesame or poppy seed if desired.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until crisp and golden.

Makes about 8 dozen crackers
