Thank You: June Thank God for technology!!!

Misc.
June,we had a similar thing. My husband 48, had a massive heart attack Dec 5 and would have died but for the quick action of the ER and cath lab at the hospital where I work. They were able to open up his artery that was 100% occluded. I would try to find out what your husband's HDL, LDL and triglycerides are. This may determine what your diet should be. My husband had very low HDL(often referred to as the good cholesterol). Some of the newer thinking about this is that poly unsaturates and high carbs in the typical cardiac diets are not good for THIS TYPE of heart disease. We were advised to not decrease fat but use monounsaturated oils(olive and canola) for fats and decrease carbs in his diet. Trans fats (hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated)are the absolute worst thing for any type of heart disease. My husband and I are both nurses and the most helpful thing I can say is to educate yourself. There is so much research in this area and all the data is not in. Anyway I have developed many modifications of some of my favorite recipes. My husband is eating many things he would not try before(Micha you are so right about roasted veggies) and truly enjoys every meal. Thank God for a second chance and take care of yourself June.
