Misc.
Last Thursday, my dear DH was admitted for an impending heart attack, and the next morning the cardiac catheterization showed clogged arteries as expected, but also a large clot forming where it could do damage to 90% of the heart muscle if it traveled a fraction.

He was rushed immediately for open heart surgery and they did a quintuple by-pass. He is doing well, thanks to the prayers of so many dear friends and family - and thanks to the competency of our hospital and staff, which is rated one of the top 100 in the country in cardiology.

As the immediate crisis stage is passing, I'm waiting for him to return home in a few days, and doing a lot of thinking about how swiftly in just a minute, your lives can change - how we go blithly along, not eating right and knowing it, not getting enough exercise but being too lazy to do anything about it - but then it all catches up to you one day - at least, if all continues well with him, we'll have a second chance to do it right and make some changes.

He's not a person who will adapt easily to diet changes and lifestyle changes - nor will I, and I'm worried about that - will we have enough sense and will power when the scare has passed to maintain what needs to be maintained.

I'm sure that recipelink will be my "bible" in the months to come as I research how to make foods without salt, or without loading up with eggs, butter and cream. His favorite meal is bacon and eggs - daily! It's not going to be easy, friends.

Love each other and appreciate every second you have with the people you love - it can vanish in a "heartbeat"

Love, June
