Dear June,

Misc.
I wish that they would spend more time preparing us for this in the post surgery classes. Perhaps they don't because it effects everyone differently. I feel that it definitly is the worst part of the recovery. I do believe that it is a form of post traumatic stress disorder...after all we have held ourselves together for several weeks just getting through it all. Also, the patient has felt very secure at the hospital and at home they feel a little vulnerable. I think most especially that if you are dealing with a previously "in control" type person, they have had to realize that something potentially life threatening has happened to them that was out of their control. To top it all off, they are scared! Now, as for you...if you have been like I was, you were right there with all the bright cheery outlook and just the right things to say. Now that you are home you can let down some and you just can't hold it all in forever...after all, you were very frightened too.
The good news, IT WILL PASS! and your life will get back to normal (well, almost normal).
Take some comfort in knowing that you are not alone in these feelings.
Best wishes to you, my friend.
