i noticed your request a while back and was also waiting to see if you get any reply. since you haven't i am posting this recipe which i believe is the same one (however, i found it in my 1971 CAI 200 cake recipes book).
coffee spice cake
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
3 t. baking powder
1/4 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. ginger
1 1/2 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. cloves
1/4 t. nutmeg
3/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
3 eggs, well beaten
3/4 cup cold strong coffee
sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices together 3 times. cream shortening with sugar until fluffy. add molasses and eggs and beat thoroughly. add dry ingredients and coffee alternately in 3rd; beat well after each addition. pour into greased 8" layer pans. bake at 350F 30 min. frost with Mocha Cream frosting. Make 3 layers.
Mocha Cream Frosting
3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
2 T. cocoa
1/4 t. salt
1/3 shortening (use 2 T butter)
1/4 t. vanilla
3/4 t. instant coffee
1/4 cup cold water
sift sugar, cocoa and salt together. cream shortening and vanilla with 1/2 of the sugar. dissolve coffee in water; add alternately with remaning sugar, beating until of spreading consistency. will frost 2 (9") layers.
