Date Dreams - 1927
Recipe By : October 1927 Good Housekeeping
Yield : 50

1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg -- beaten
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2/3 cup dates -- finely chopped

Calls for rolled oats, since this recipe was in 1927 I know you can't use quick oats. You might be able to substitute the old fashioned oats for the rolled oats.

Cream shortening, sugar & salt. Add egg, rolled oats & dates. Sift other dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk. Drop, bake 15 minutes

Bake at 350. All measurements level. About 2" space should be allowed on each pan for cookies to spread. Let cookies stand in pan a minute before removing to board to cool. Do not pile or put in jars until quite cold.
