FIG BREAD
2 tbsp shortening
1 cup honey
1 egg, beaten
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup figs, chopped
1/2 cup raisins, chopped
1 cup nuts
3/4 cup sweet milk
1/4 cup sour milk
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a loaf pan.
Cream shortening and honey well, add beaten egg; set aside.
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Combine the figs, raisins, and nuts with a little of the flour mixture; set aside.
Add the flour mixture to the shortening mixture alternately with milk and sour milk. Stir in the fruit and nut mixture. Pour into prepared loaf pan.
Bake in moderate oven 325 F for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
