Recipe: Italian Casserole (oven or crock pot)

Italian Casserole

1 1/2 lbs. ground meat
1 (32-oz) jar spaghetti sauce
1/3 cup water
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. oregano leaves
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. pepper
5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
8 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese

Brown ground beef and drain. Add spaghetti sauce, water, salt, basil, oregano, sugar, and pepper. Cook two minutes more.

In a baking dish or crock pot*, evenly spoon 1/3 meat mixture, arrange 1/2 of potatoes on top. Repeat layers, ending with meat mixture. Repeat layers, ending with meat mixture. Cover dish tightly with foil (if using oven).

Bake at 375F for 1 hour or cook on low in crock pot all day or until potatoes are tender.

Remove foil, sprinkle mixture evenly with Mozzarella cheese, bake 10 minutes more, or until cheese melts.

*If cooking in crock pot, you can add the cheese towards the end, or you can put the cheese in at the same time as the rest of the food.
