I was once corrected and told that a shish kabob consisted of lamb and veggies; that you must call anything else a chicken kabob or a veggie kabob. It comes from a foreign land, though don't remember now which one. Here is how we like our kabobs. (we still call them shish kabobs!)
SHISHKA BOBS
1 1/2 pounds deer loin or chicken breasts, cut into bite sized pieces
1 recipe Italian dressing (I use Good Seasons)
1 large green bell pepper, cut into bite sized pieces (I use colored ones when I have them)
1 large onion cut into wedges
1 pound button mushrooms, brushed
wooden skewers*
Reserve 1/4 cup dressing then, take the meat and marinate it in dressing in a large ziploc bag. I usually let it set in the fridge overnight for the best flavor.
Alternate your meat with your veggies on skewers.
Grill until meat is done.
*Note: Be sure to soak wooden skewers in water to keep the ends from flaming up and to distribute the heat evenly!
