Recipe: Spicy Meatball Sandwiches (using Italian sausage) (Velveeta, 1983)

Sandwiches
SPICY MEATBALL SANDWICHES

1 lb. mild Italian sausage
1 tablespoon oil
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 (8-oz.) can tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves, crushed
4 frankfurter buns, split
6 Velveeta Slices Pasteurized Process Cheese Spread, cut in half diagonally

Remove casing from meat; shape meat into 1-inch meatballs. Brown in oil; drain.

Add onion; cook until tender.

Stir in tomato sauce and oregano; simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

For each sandwich, fill bun with meat mixture; top with process cheese spread. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Broil until process cheese spread begins to melt.

Makes 4 sandwiches
