Recipe: Weekday Sauerbraten (using ground beef) (Anchor Hocking, 1976)

WEEKDAY SAUERBRATEN

1 (10 3/4 oz.) can beef gravy, divided use
1 lb. ground beef
1/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs
1 tbsp. chopped onion
1/2 tsp. grated lemon rind
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 (1 lb.) can small whole potatoes
4 gingersnaps, finely crushed
1 tbsp. dark brown sugar
1 tbsp. wine vinegar

Combine 1/3 cup gravy, ground beef, crumbs, onion, lemon rind and ginger; mix thoroughly. Shape into 4 patties. Place patties in 9x5-inch loaf dish.

Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven 20 minutes. Spoon off fat. Arrange potatoes around meat.

Combine remaining gravy, gingersnaps, sugar and vinegar; pour over meat and potatoes.

Bake covered 20 additional minutes.

Makes 4 servings
