White Cheese and Sausage Pasta
Servings: 8
1/2 pound mild Italian turkey sausage
Cooking spray
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups skim milk
6 cups cooked & hot bowtie pasta (4 cups uncooked)
3/4 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, part skim milk
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Remove sausage from casings. Place a large skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat; cook sausage with garlic and red pepper flakes, until browned, stirring to crumble. Drain well; set aside. Wipe drippings from pan with a paper towel.
Melt butter in pan over medium heat. Add flour; stir with a whisk. Gradually add milk, stirring with a whisk until smooth. Cook until thick (about 8 minutes); remove from heat.
Combine sauce, sausage, pasta, Parmesan, salt, pepper, and parsley in a large bowl. Spoon mixture into a 13x9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle with mozzarella.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
