Growing Pineapples

Misc.

Hi my name is Debbie from Florida. I had a neighbor give me a pineapple plant that was already rooted. I put it in my yard, and this beautiful plant grew and then one day, I spotted a tiny pineapple. Only one per plant. Anyway it grew and grew until about November, and then it started turning golden. Needless to say, I picked it and we ate it. It wasn't as large as the ones you get in the supermarket, but it was enough to serve 6 guests.
I think you need to fertilize it with a special fertilizer to get the pineapples. The neighbor you gave it to me was a horticulturist, and I remember something about using chopped banana peels on the plant. Ask your local nursery about fertilizer. And one other thing I had two plants, I don't know if one was a male and the other female.
