Master Cook and computers

Misc.

Laurel-

Wow, you have your stuff organized. I have a much earlier version of master cook- Had some problems with it and gave up using it. Most of my recipes are just typed into word processing files on disk. First, my computer is in the family room I wouldn't want my baby, the computer, in the kitchen. I use it too much for other tasks. Second, I have a print out of my web page ( a recipe site) put together in a ring binder- which is what I work with in the kitchen. Before I put together my web site, I had assembled one cook book and had it bond with a plastic binder. There were about twenty copies of that one and while I don't have a copy of it I do have all of the recipes on disk I can print out any that I need, some of them are taped to the inside of cupboard doors. When a copy gets ratty looking or needs updating. I just get on the computer and print out a new copy or version.

Something you might find interesting. In earlier times, a hundred years ago or so, when books were even more expensive than they are now, women would copy the printed recipes out of the books and use a hand written -and easily repaced version in the kitchen. Now, I just do the same thing- only a computer age version.

One added benefit of having your recipes on disk, if you are asked for a recipe it just takes a few monents to print out a copy.
