Recipe(tried): Apple Ollies (drop doughnuts)
Breakfast and BrunchAPPLE OLLIES
To Die For!
1 pkg active dry yeast
1/2 tsp sugar
3/4 cup warm milk
2 cups flour
4 tbsp sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
Dash of salt
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup peeled, diced apples
1 cup raisins
Powdered sugar for dusting
Sprinkle yeast and 1/2 tsp sugar into warm milk; stir to dissolve and let sit for 10 minutes.
In medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture and eggs; mix only until just blended.
Stir in raisins and apples. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
Heat oil in large saucepan for deep frying at least 2-inches deep (or use a deep frying)
Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls into hot oil. Cook until golden brown (approximately 3 minutes).
Drain on paper towels and dust heavily or roll in powdered sugar.
These taste just as delicious at room temperature, if any last that long.
