Recipe: Best Sugar Cookies (No-Rolling Pin Sugar Cookies) (Judy/AZ, repost)
Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, BarsI make these all the time, in fact, our seven year old granddaughter helps me roll them and dip them in sugar. This is the best recipe for sugar cookies that I have come across - they literally melt in your mouth.
BEST SUGAR COOKIES
5 cups flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs, beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Combine all ingredients in a large mixer bowl. Beat on medium speed until well mixed. Chill for an hour.
Roll bits of dough into small balls (about 1/2-inch diameter). Press onto ungreased cookie sheet with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until done but NOT brown.
Note: These also freeze very well. You can tint it with food color for holidays.
Makes 6 dozen
