COTTAGE CHEESE FRUIT SALAD

1 3 oz. pkg. Jello (any flavor)
1 (1 lb.) can fruit (any kind)
1 large carton cottage cheese
1 large carton Cool Whip
1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds

Mix Jello with undrained fruit; heat until Jello is melted, stirring frequently. Chill until thickened. Fold in cottage cheese, Cool Whip, and almonds; place in mold. Refrigerate until firm. May garnish with drained maraschino cherries or other fruits, if desired.
