My mother used to make this in the summer when our garden came in and used fresh cucumbers and onions.
She took sliced, peeled cucumbers and sliced yellow onion and put in a bowl. She then covered with apple cider vinegar just to cover then added about a teaspoon of sugar. She would put this mixture in the refrigerator for at least an hour. The longer they are in the vinegar mixture the better they taste. I hope this is what you were looking for.
