Recipe: Easy Chocolate Cherry Bars and Frosting (using cake mix and pie filling)

2 eggs, beaten
1 (18 1/2 oz.) box chocolate cake mix
1 (1 lb.) can cherry pie filling
1 tsp. almond extract
Stir all ingredients together well. Pour into greased and floured jelly roll pan, or 2 round cake pans, or 9 x 13 cake pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F using times below, or until toothpick comes out clean:
15x10x1-inch jelly roll pan - 20-30 minutes
Round pans - 25-30 minutes
13x9-inch pan - 25-35 minutes
While cake cools, prepare frosting.
CHOCOLATE FROSTING
1 cup confectioner's sugar
5 tbsp. butter or margarine
1/3 cup milk
1 (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces
In small saucepan, combine sugar, butter and milk. Boil, stirring constantly for one minute. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate pieces until smooth. Pour frosting over partially cooled cake.

I wonder if your recipe was a variation of this one using yellow cake mix instead of chocolate?
