Granola Bars

3/4 cup shortening or butter
3/4 cup peanut butter, chunky
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/2 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
3 cups oats, old fashioned
1 cup wheat germ
1 cup raisins
1 cup nuts, chopped
1 cup chocolate or carob chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 10x15-inch pan.

Beat shortening or butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, eggs, water and vanilla together until creamy. Sift flour and baking soda together; add to creamed mixture. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread into pan. Bake about 25 minutes, checking after 20 minutes for doneness. Cool and cut into bars of desired size.
