Recipe(tried): Turkeyburger Toast (and note to Brenda in MS)
SandwichesBrenda ~ I finally tried making hamburger toast using ground turkey. It was a big hit!
TURKEY BURGERS
Ground turkey (I used all white meat)
Chopped onion, to taste
Chopped garlic, to taste
Yellow Mustard, to taste (I used Dijon)
Catsup, to taste
Cheese slices (your favorite - I used sharp cheddar)
In a bowl combine the ground turkey, chopped garlic and chopped onion with just enough catsup and mustard moisten the mixture without being "soupy".
Place a slice of cheese on top of the bread.
Spread a small amount of the meat mixture on untoasted white bread slices (with the crust on). Note: I tried this with bread AND with sliced bagels. Both worked well! English muffins would also work well.
Spread the meat mixture all the way to the edge of the bread to help keep the bread from burning in the oven while the meat is cooking.
Since the meat is uncooked you don't want to spread it too thick or your bread will burn before the meat is done.
Bake these on a cookie sheet at around 400 degrees until the bottom of the bread is toasted, then transfer to the broiler to finish browning the top.
I think I prefer using the ground turkey over using ground beef. The ground turkey had less fat than most ground beef and the bread, at the end, had less fat.
