Re: I know it's spring 'cause:

Misc.
Dear June,

In California, we know it's Spring when the rain lets up for a few days, just long enough to see the blossoms (yes, ma'am, we do have 'em) on the tulip trees. Then all the flower stands have scrumptious arrays of flowers in every color of the rainbow -- and then some. We have our "grass season" now, with green hills (mostly gold/brown during the rest of the year), crisp blue skys and super sunsets running to reds, golds and pinks, with blue-green end notes.

Most of us are not able to go to our backyards for bush/tree limbs, but we usually can be flowering quince (really beautiful) just before Chinese New Year to enjoy for a few weeks. The man who used to live downstairs from me set out tubs of orchids all year around. There's no way to describe the colors when all 60 or so got to blooming. Super.

Any way, that's Spring in California, urban-area kind that is.
