I miss my wonderful grandmother so much, she died when I was just a teen, but she had a tremendous influence on me.

One of the things I remember about her was how her hair always smelled of lily of the valley, another nostalgic memory.

She had long shiny silver white hair that of course, was done up in a bun at the back of her head, held by tortuoise shell hair pins. When she let it down it reached to below her waist. The smell of lily of the valley came from her rinse water when she shampooed - she would put a few drops of some lily of the valley cologne or perfume in the rinse water in the basin she used to wash her hair.

Don't you think that smell is one of the most powerful senses we have to elicit memories of things? Whether food-perfumes-air, etc.
